Percy & Viola Patterson Academic Scholarship
APPLICATION FOR PERCY AND VIOLA PATTERSON SCHOLARSHIP
SUBMISSIONS DUE BY 5:00 p.m. CST, SUNDAY APRIL 9, 2023
The Percy and Viola Patterson Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to Leland High School seniors attending accredited colleges and universities. The Percy and Viola Patterson Scholarship supports students with intellectual promise and talent to succeed in higher education, regardless of grades.
CRITERIA
The Percy and Viola Patterson Scholarship will be awarded without regard to non-pertinent factors such as race, creed, sex, national origin, ethnic background, or handicap. The recipients of the scholarships are required to give their consent to publicity regarding the scholarships and to provide a copy of their entry to be included in the Scholarship Library.
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The winner will receive $1,000. The funds will be dispersed through the Financial Aid and Scholarships office and will be applied towards tuition, room and board, and other expenses directly related to attending an accredited college and university for one academic year. If the funds are dispersed as a check, they will be taxed.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be current seniors at Leland High School. Applicants have been accepted to enroll in at least 12 credits at an accredited college or university.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Please submit your creative project along with a completed application. Although there is no specific prompt, we encourage you to draw inspiration from the quotes provided on this page. Any external support should be credited appropriately. If the project was a joint effort, only one person can be selected as the winner. The group must decide on the winner and provide a written submission that includes the signatures of all participants.
The applicant must submit the media disclosure form, provided below. The applicant's parent or guardian must sign the media consent form.
EVALUATION PROCESS
A committee will evaluate the submissions. Each evaluator will work independently, and the point totals from each evaluator will be tallied and ranked. The awards will be presented at Leland High School’s Class Night.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Winners may be required to prove the authenticity of their project before a review board and must keep all source material for the review. All winners are required to provide copies of their entries to be included in our Scholarship Library.

- Grades are NOT a factor in scholarship eligibility, evaluation, or consideration.
